It’s genuinely unhealthy for them. They cannot process it correctly, and it lacks the nutrition they need (I don’t know that any animal can live off bread alone, especially white bread, but people over feed ducks so they stop going to get real food since they aren’t hungry).
One consequence of an all-bread diet is Angel wing, which sounds more pleasant than it is.
Angel wing is caused by poor nutrition leading to damages to bone development and structural issues with the joints. The wing grows twisted and malformed when feathers come in and put stress on the weakened ligaments, the tips of the wings generally face backwards and the wing can neither close nor extend past the elbow in severe cases. This can happen to one or both wings and develops due to ducklings and other young waterfowl having poor nutrition growing up.
It isn’t any better for adults. It can cause poor feather development, lethargy, crop stasis, joint problems, fertility issues, and ultimately death. Further, uneaten bread promotes algae to bloom out of control as it feeds on the yeast.
Please do not feed ducks bread.

Look up what treats and meals are good for pet ducks, it’s generally safe for feral and wild ducks too.

Okay tho when they finally actually rescued Eva she was so profoundly physically injured and probably had lasting physical effects from what happened to her and Marco still said "we're not giving my mom the morphing power, she's done her time" even though it would have fast forwarded her physical recovery because he knew that to have the power was to have no choice but to use it and that meant risking death, and even at the very end while Jake was throwing away family members left and right, and even though Eva would have been a profoundly valuable ally in combat, the supposedly ice cold Marco still said hell no i am not doing this again. Screw the world. Four* times was enough.
